A Minnesota mother was sentenced to life in prison for the fatally shooting her 6-year-old son.
Julissa Thaler, 29, murdered Eli Hart in 2022. Only days before the shooting, Thaler had gained custody of the child. She was convicted of first degree murder.
Police officers discovered Eli Hart’s body in the truck of a car. He was shot nine times. The boy’s step father had warned child protective service that the mother, Julissa Thaler, was spiraling out of control, abusing drugs. Despite his warnings, the department of family services return Eli Hart to his mother. The father filed a lawsuit agains the department.
Thaler’s defense attorney tried to deflect blame from his client by saying she participated in the murder but she was not the one who killed the boy.
As the trial began to wind down, Thaler erupted. She began to scream at the judge and everyone else in the courtroom.
“I’m innocent. F—k you all. You’re garbage. That is all, your honor,” Julissa Thaler said during her sentencing hearing Thursday, as reported by the New York Post.
