The Innocent Project to Try and Overturn Scott Peterson’s Conviction Twenty One Years After The Murder Of Laci and Her Unborn Baby

Shock spread through the true crime community recently after the Innocent Project announced its decision to take on Scott Peterson as a client. Peterson was tried and convicted in the gruesome double homicide of his wife Laci and her unborn baby. His trial captured the attention of the entire nation spanning into several best sellers, a number of documentaries and countless news coverage.

Most of the people who followed the Scott Peterson’s case were convinced he was guilty of killing his wife and her baby. Police offered as a motive, Scott Peterson’s obsession with his mistress, Amber Frey. To aid the murder investigation, Amber who was cleared by the police of any wrongdoing, famously taped her conversations with Scott. On one of the tapes, Scott could be heard telling Amber he was on a business trip to Paris while he was at the vigil for Laci with her devastated relatives.

Many viewers breathed a sigh of relief when the jury handed down a guilty verdict sending Scott to prison for the rest of his life. He was originally given the death penalty, but California overturned it and changed it to life without the possibility of parole.

Life moved on, or so we thought. Yes, it’s true — from time to time we heard Scott Peterson proclaim his innocence from behind bars giving interviews to so and so, but for the most part, we didn’t worry about him ever getting out.

That is until the Innocent Project dropped the news on us — Scott Peterson would be their latest client.

“We are very excited that the incredibly talented attorneys at the L.A. Innocence Project are lending their considerable expertise to help prove that Scott Peterson is innocent,” Peterson’s attorney, Pat Harris, said Thursday in a statement to The Times.

The Innocent Project declined to make further statements at the time.
